BitMEX Co-Founder Ben Delo Pledges £20 Million to London Institute for Mathematical Sciences

Ben Delo, co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX, has committed a significant donation of £20 million to the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences (LIMS). The pledge includes an upfront payment of £13.3 million, with an additional £13.3 million contingent on the institute securing matching funds through its own fundraising efforts.

This substantial contribution is recognized as one of the largest private donations ever received by a UK research institution outside of Oxford and Cambridge. The funds are earmarked to support LIMS in establishing an £80 million endowment fund, crucial for securing its long-term development and operational sustainability.

Delo, who co-founded BitMEX in 2014, previously pleaded guilty to violating U.S. bank regulations in 2022, resulting in a $10 million fine. He received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump in March 2025.
