There are a lot of restaurants in my city that keep closing because the economy is struggling, yet people continue buying them, thinking they’ll be able to make it work. These restaurants are typically for sale for around $80K USD, with rent around $2K USD per month. One particular location has hosted several types of restaurants: Italian, Thai, Indian, and now it’s going to become a Vietnamese restaurant. Whenever I go to get food from them, the owners are always friendly and share a lot of information about their lives and their experiences. Some of the owners are amateurs, while others are experienced in the restaurant business, but none of them have been able to succeed, and they eventually close down. The main reason is, the struggling economy. Canada is in a downturn, and with fewer people having children and the impact of Trump-era tariffs, it's even harder. I don’t think many people who buy these businesses are doing their homework. It seems pretty clear to me that the economy is tough, and opening a restaurant in Canada right now might not be the best idea. On the positive side, I’ve gained a lot of useful information and experience from their journeys, and I’ve had the opportunity to try food from different countries.
