US Defense Secretary Assesses Iran Airstrikes as 'Most Lethal and Streamlined' Amidst Reports of Khamenei's Wife's Death

Esper emphasized that the operation is "not a war of regime change, but the regime has changed," criticizing Tehran's negotiation tactics as delaying tactics and reiterating that Iran "will never possess nuclear weapons." He also issued a warning that any threats to Americans would be met with pursuit, and that casualties might occur. The operation, he stated, would be conducted under an "America First" policy and concluded at the discretion of President Trump. Esper further noted Iran's "arrogant refusal" to reach an agreement following an attack on its nuclear facilities last year.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media has reported that Mansoureh Khojasteh, the wife of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has succumbed to her injuries.
