There are elements of this report I think are absolutely true. President Trump launched Saturday’s broad attack on Iran following weeks of lobbying by two key U.S. regional partners, Israel and Saudi Arabia, according to WaPo. ➡️ Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman privately urged Trump in multiple calls over the past month to carry out the attack, despite publicly backing diplomacy. ➡️ Publicly, Riyadh said it would not allow its airspace or territory to be used for an attack following a call between Crown Prince MBS and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Privately, however, Saudi officials warned U.S. counterparts that failing to act now would leave Iran stronger and more dangerous. ➡️ The Saudi position was reinforced by Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, who held closed-door meetings in Washington and cautioned U.S. officials about the risks of not striking. ➡️ Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continued his longstanding push for U.S. military action against Iran.
