OpenAI in Talks with Pentagon for Collaboration, Potential for "Safety Stack"

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has revealed that the artificial intelligence company is in discussions with the U.S. Department of Defense regarding potential agreements for the use of its models and tools. The reported talks come in the wake of an order by former President Donald Trump to terminate cooperation with Anthropic.

Fortune reports that during an all-hands meeting, Altman indicated that the government might permit OpenAI to develop its own "safety stack" for its AI systems. This framework would reportedly include critical "red lines" prohibiting the technology's use for autonomous weapons, domestic mass surveillance, or in crucial decision-making processes.
