Whatsapp group chats remain the most powerful feature in messaging. It's where network effects are strongest.

You can easily get one friend or colleague to install another app to message you - signal, telegram, whitenoise, etc. But it's really difficult to get your group of friends to all move simultaneously from whatsapp group chat.

However privacy abuse by Meta is becoming serious enough that there might be a chance for a mass exodus in the next few years.... IF there is a viable alternative.
