UK Gambling Commission Considers Allowing Crypto Payments

The UK Gambling Commission is reportedly exploring the possibility of allowing gamblers to use cryptocurrency for payments. Tim Miller, the Commission's Executive Director for Research and Policy, stated that as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is expected to finalize cryptocurrency regulatory rules this year, with a go-live date by the end of 2027, betting companies may seek relevant crypto licenses in the future. Miller has requested an industry consultation group to research how to safely implement crypto payments, believing that permitting digital asset payments in regulated venues could help mitigate risks posed by illegal betting sites.
