Supreme Court Focuses on Virtual Currency and Underground Banks in Money Laundering Crackdown

The Supreme People's Court of China has announced a strategic shift in its enforcement efforts, prioritizing the prosecution of crimes associated with money laundering, particularly those involving virtual currencies and underground banking operations.

During a press conference on February 26th, Wang Bin, head of the Third Criminal Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court, detailed the court's upcoming agenda. The focus will be on dismantling criminal syndicates by targeting their leaders and key members, as well as "money men" involved in telecom fraud, "snakeheads" who facilitate illegal border crossings, and organizations providing armed protection for cross-border criminal activities.

In addition to these primary targets, the court will concentrate on associated crimes committed during telecom fraud operations, including intentional homicide, intentional injury, and kidnapping. A significant emphasis will also be placed on combating money laundering activities that leverage virtual currencies and underground banks.
