I doubt anyone in Russia cares about all the Nazis in Ukraine, except when they were formed into units and sent to Donbas I suppose. 

I don't think anyone in the US thought that Saddam could launch a WMD attack on 48hrs or that Iran is one week away from a nuke again.

But it's funny that an undemocratic country tells another undemocratic country that they're not democratic enough to negotiate with. Russia seems to have picked up that nice little trick from the west.
