Today marks the beginning of the fifth year of Russia's Special Operation in Ukraine. It has now lasted longer than the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany. Russia justified the massive land invasion, in order to stop "Nazis" from developing nuclear weapons (which have never surfaced) and committing genocide against Russian speakers in eastern Ukraine (which is now largely emptied of people and turned into a mine-strewn wasteland and environmental disaster zone). Russia says that it will not continue peace negotiations until Ukraine has held a snap national election, as the Ukrainian government is otherwise undemocratic. Putin has been the unequivocal and absolute leader of Russia since the year 2000. https://www.aljazeera.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/000_324M8XP.jpg
