On this day in 1980, the Blondie single “Atomic” debuted on the UK Singles Chart at #3 (February 23)

The song from the “Eat to the Beat” LP written by Debbie Harry and keyboard player Jimmy Destri only made it to #39 in the US, despite “Call Me” occupying the #1 spot when “Atomic” debuted.

It did significantly better elsewhere in the world though, going all the way to #1 in the UK, #3 in Ireland, #5 in Norway and Austria, #7 in New Zealand, #8 in Belgium, #12 in Australia, #16 in South Africa, and #17 in the Netherlands.

Very cool song, with the spaghetti western/surf guitar instrumental riff, and Clem Burke’s typically excellent lock-down work behind the kit…
