Maybe I am not comprehending what social effects are had on the chain. Orphan blocks happen quite frequently but no one really complains because the heuristic of "waiting for 6 confirmations" I am not sure on a technical level, more than a 6 block reorg is possible in this scenario other than some Goldilocks adoption level that I couldn't predict. As for social, I guess with the litecoin example it is way more obvious where the consensus difference is (I also don't see that as social). Are we talking about some scenario where a shorter chain is maintained behind the chaintip and is seen from the BIP 110 camp as "the real bitcoin" type of thing? If so, I am not sure how that is even possible or even knowable outside of the BIP 110 miner group. If not, I am kind of lost.
