⚡️🇺🇸🇮🇷 NEW - Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said on Instagram that she opposes war with Iran, after earlier posting the same on X. 

She said the Iranian government had carried out “brutal persecution” of protesters, and described it as “horrifying,” while arguing there are ways to support demonstrators short of a “mass bombing campaign,” which would also likely kill civilians. Ocasio-Cortez also said no president has the authority to authorize war without congressional approval.

Over 3,000 people were killed during mass public unrest last month following protests over depreciation of the Iranian rial and a call to insurrection by exiled former Iranian crown prince Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. The U.S. and Israel are currently preparing for a likely military campaign against Iran on the pretext of targeting its ballistic missile program and nuclear energy infrastructure.
