President Trump, for the first time, acknowledged that the regime has killed protesters, citing a more conservative estimate of over 32,000 deaths. Current confirmed estimates, however, place the number at over 40,000 people.

He also referred to the reported halt in executions using the word “supposedly,” which reflects a degree of skepticism. Meanwhile, families continue to receive the bodies of their loved ones with gunshot wounds to the head. Some former prisoners die suddenly—reportedly from heart failure—within days of their release, raising suspicions of possible foul play. Young detainees are subjected to torture to extract forced confessions for crimes they never committed, and many are subsequently handed death sentences.

One of the regime’s most notorious judges, Judge Salavati, recently issued death sentences to 14 protesters in an online trial.

I appreciate that President Trump clearly distinguishes between the people of Iran and the regime. This regime does not represent the Iranian people.
