I’m an importer. Since we started this trade war I have had to recreate my business every few weeks. Constant negotiation with foreign suppliers and domestic customers. I’ve had to find new supply chains, not because they’re efficient but because I’m responding to incentives. I’ve had constant uncertainty if the amount I will be billed when a container arrives at the port will be the amount I built into my calculations. I’ve walked away from significant pieces of business because I couldn’t make sense of the rules. I shifted a lot of our operating capital into Bitcoin which felt like a win until recently (obviously still the right play long term but my company has less wiggle room than I would like). Now I’m going to have to start over again. What do the new rules mean? Will I get a refund on tariffs paid? Will my customers demand I share the refund with them? Will prices rise from Chinese suppliers? What new tariffs will be applied and how will they stack with existing ones? Which old ones will be removed and which will remain? There is no central database for this. Customs brokers used to be willing to review a product for us to give advice on landed costs. They stopped offering that service sometime in 2024. Luckily more than half of my business is domestic-to-domestic so I’m not completely exposed. I’m tired boss! nostr:nevent1qqsyt6xaz2zneterhcl98lyvx7328umg5gwky26xj3vjmtzh4s2xwdqshgfgj
