Her boyfriend, whom she clearly didn’t see a future with, is a 19-year-old named Huang. They met in 2024 at a billiards hall. Zhou allegedly told Huang that her family had a business in Myanmar, and that he should “join her in working there.” However, when he reached the border, he was abducted, had his head shaved and was locked inside a small room for months, where he was forced to commit telecom fraud. Zhou was paid 100,000 yuan, which is about $13,900, for her boyfriend. It’s not a ton of cash, but at least she never had to have the breakup conversation with him.
