Argentine Crypto Scam Suspect Arrested in Venezuela with $56 Million in Bitcoin

Venezuelan authorities have apprehended Rosa María González, a key suspect in the Generación Zoe cryptocurrency scam, in San Cristóbal, Táchira state. The alleged scam defrauded tens of thousands of investors, leading to losses exceeding $120 million.

González is accused of fleeing in 2022 after the scheme collapsed, reportedly taking with her 611 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $56 million at the time. Generación Zoe falsely advertised high returns, claiming to use market prediction bots and proprietary gold-backed crypto assets to offer investors up to 7.5% weekly.

Investigations revealed the operation was a Ponzi scheme, where new investors' funds were used to pay earlier investors. González had also promoted her trading algorithms as "quantum-safe" and capable of generating monthly returns as high as 70%.

Details regarding González's activities in Buenos Aires prior to her flight remain under investigation. The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to recover assets and bring those responsible for the Generación Zoe fraud to justice.
