I’m pretty sure we were hearing the same arguments for Syria, being called Assadists and regime propagandists if we had any reservations about the timing of their ‘revolution’ or expressed concern about the Western backing of those carrying it out, and look how that went. 80% or so of their entire military defense systems were completely neutralised within days of Assad falling, leaving the country naked for further attacks, intevention, and unopposed expansion whenever Israel pleases. Toppling the Iranian government right now means Israel wins, just like they won in Syria. Some argue that the hope of freedom and change is better than certain repression. I get that. But with Israel winning you can be 100% sure there will never be freedom for any of these people. Not for Iraq, not for Syria, not for Venezuela, not for Iran if it falls. And I’m saying this even having Iranian friends who hate the government with a passion. Even they recognise that the timing right now is bad and not as organic as people want to believe.
