My wife originally played with the idea of sending our older kid to an ecological, democratic school. We decided against it mostly because of the driving times involved. 
Now the kids have a summer program at the same place, and while the place indeed is cool (the class room would be in a geodesic dome), getting there turns out to be a bitch. 

I really don't see the point in getting your kids to some ecology conscious school if the only way to get them there is to drive 2-3 hours every day.
